The voice behind several iconic Looney Tunes characters has died.
Eric Bauza, who voiced Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Porky Pig, passed away at age 46. His family posted a statement on Instagram saying he died suddenly. Variety reported that the cause of death was hypertensive cardiovascular disease and that he died at his home on Sunday.
Bauza was born in Ontario and was of Filipino descent. In a 2021 interview with NBC News, he described himself as a childhood fan who copied the character voices. He noted that the Looney Tunes comedy transcends languages and cultures.
He reprised his roles in Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Elmer Fudd, and Foghorn Leghorn for the 2021 film Space Jam: A New Legacy. He returned to those characters and added the voice of Road Runner for this summer's animated hit Coyote vs. Acme. He also appeared in the recent release Forgotten Island.
Bauza voiced Toad General in the 2023 film The Super Mario Bros. Movie and its sequel The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The sequel became the fifth highest-grossing film internationally this year.
Between 2022 and 2025, he won three Emmy awards for outstanding voice performance. Channing Dungey, chairman of Warner Bros. Television Group and US Networks, said Bauza was a unique voice talent who brought joy to millions. Dungey added that Bauza followed in the footsteps of giants like Mel Blanc and considered carrying the Looney Tunes legacy one of the greatest honors of his life.
